A lunch date story

There he was beside my table, waiting for me. A little impatience in his eyes was obvious. I had to rearrange the color blocks for the kids’ activity planned for that afternoon before I sit for my lunch. Though it looked like my apology wasn’t accepted he cracked a smile and sat next to me but eyes on my lunch box. The best thing that I love about my job of being a kinder garten teacher is having lunch with my little ones. It gives me a lot more joy than a dinner date if you ask. It’s even more delightful watching this little boy eat from my box giving a smile every now and then. I never asked him why he doesn’t bring lunch but more than glad to offer him from mine. Never took the courage to ask to be honest, looking into his wide blue marble eyes.

“My mom prepares it the same way”. His mellow voice cut my thoughts off. Curiosity heaped on me. He goes on; “She scolds when I ask her to pack me two lunch boxes; but your food is delicious”. I swear, I have never laughed with a lighter heart before!!
