Walk my way

Who else would hang out in their balcony in this freezing cold!! I smiled to myself while carefully removing the rotten leaves from plant pots in the dim light. A pair of new leaves on the Purple Orchid pleased my thoughts. The heavenly fragrance from flowering Jasmine buds has been perfuming the frosty air. Breathing the aroma in, I turned over my shoulders.

Laptop on the corner table showed 11:13 pm. I ignored the notification on screen and shifted my gaze to the sparkling view down the ground. I have always loved watching the reflection of bordering garden lights upon the swimming pool, from upstairs. It resembled a skillfully painted canvas; a well crafted one. I tried to recollect the points to be highlighted in the upcoming meeting at 11:30. But a giggle in the neighbouring balcony suddenly cut my thoughts off. In a flick I pushed myself behind the Bougainvillea shades, reached out my left hand and flapped the laptop lid very quickly.

“Wofff!!” I breathed a sigh of relief!! It would have been awkward if I had caught their eye. More than that I didn’t want to spoil their moment. But I couldn’t stop myself from sneaking a peak at them out the corner of my eye. They moved in here a week ago, and we have exchanged just a morning greeting from our balconies ever since; it was on their second day I think. I liked that young couple very much; there was something very charming about them.

Now she is standing leaned against the balcony rail with both of her palms resting on his chest. His left arm is tightened around her and I imagine his right palm is placed around her neck. Their elegant pose sketches a beautiful picture in the starry night background. Her sharp face was glowing in the warm light. She is whispering something-or ‘Did I just imagine that!!??’ He presses himself more against her and I can’t see her face anymore now!

‘Oh No!!!’ I really wanted to get out of there, jump back into my bedroom..I looked around for a way-out but only to spot them still in their same pose.

In a flash of that very moment when I pulled my eyes back, I trembled!! A scream caught in my throat and I felt a shiver down my spine!! In that seemingly intense romantic scene he grabbed her leg, lifted it up and in a blink, pushed her downwards over the rails very hard!! I see him looking down now; watching her go it seemed!! Panic swelled up incide me. I could feel a coldness spreading all over. The very thought of that girl in a pool of blood on the ground five storeys down shattered my nerves. A darkness rushed into my eyes, body drenched in cold sweat and I knew that I was going to collapse. I tried to move sideways for a grip on the corner table but I knew my legs were not moving and I crashed down!!

I don’t know for how long I have been lying down on the floor like that. A sudden sharp sound sliced through my brain..an approaching sound of a siren…horn of an ambulance!! It was getting louder and louder and louder!!!!!

I pulled my eyes open, grabbed my phone from bedside table and shut the alarm off. Message from Chris pops up; “We all waited for you in the meeting last night. What happened?”

I rubbed my eyes and turned towards balcony. The door stayed open and laptop on the corner table! Purple Orchid in the balcony was staring at me with it’s new leaves.
